DEPARTMENT OF Economics
History
The Department of Economics, established in 2012, is one of the new departments of Jaya College of Arts and Science. It offers a 3-year integrated B.A. programme in Business Economics covering a total of 10 Main papers (Principles of economics, Money and Banking, Business Statistics, Entrepreneurial Development, Managerial Economics, Macro Economics, Fiscal Economics, Indian Economy, International Economics, Environmental Economics).
The objectives of the course
Provides a solid background in advanced economics and upgrades the skill sets required in Business economic analysis.
- Formulating hypotheses in social sciences and testing them.
- Conduct research to evaluate significant questions in social sciences by reviewing academic literature, collecting data, and applying econometric methods.
- To equip enough knowledge to start an enterprise.
- To develop self-confidence among student community.
- To cater to the present day need of the society.
Association Activities
- The department activities are carried out through the club ADAM SMITH .The Adam Smith club organizes guest lecturers, seminars, Workshops, intercollegiate competitions.
- ADAM SMITH also organizes weekly activities such us poster presentation, model presentation, paper presentation and quiz for the students in order to excel in the academics.
FUTURE PLANS
- To encourage the students to join classes for Civil Services, TNPSC, Statistics.
- To provide our students with requisite knowledge and managerial skills for appropriate development of learners.
- To motivate the students to take up the short term courses by Swayam NPTEL.
- Economics Lab.
- To enable every student to cope up with the latest developments in Global level.

PO4 | Critical Thinking: The curriculum made for the betterment of the students; enhance the ability and thinking power of the students. |
PO5 | Effective Communication: The complete medium of program is learning in English so students will communicate well in the English. There is Short term course soft skill development for F.Y. Students. Which helps in effective Communication. |
PO6 | Ethics: The subject teaches students about the ethical approach, not to waste electricity.. |
PO7 | Environment and Sustainability: Conservation practices are studied for sustainable development |
PO8 | Effective Citizenship: Being the students of Physics they have to communicate with people, They have developed skills in Interactions among themselves in PPT Competition under curiosity programme. |
PO9 | Social Interaction: Due to continuous interaction with students in terms of various programme run by department i.e. Curiosity Thirsty For Knowledge programme, Celebration of ‘Birth Day’ of Teaching Staff and Students , Extension activity , “Cyber Security Awareness Programme”. Helps to increase Social Interaction. |
