DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
HISTORY
Department of Computer Science started in the year 1992 with 32 students. The department takes pride in providing opportunity to rural students and making them leaders in the IT industry from the inception of the college. Many students passed out from this department and pursued higher education and have reached higher positions in private sectors. This department is equipped with Hi-Tech Laboratory. We strive to provide overall development of students by tapping their latent talent and programming skills.
EVOLUTION
The department started with a single program B.Sc. Computer Science in the year 1992 and expanded its wings to the maximum level of adding every Programs offered by the Department of Computer Science of University of Madras Viz. B.C.A. (1999), M.Sc.(Computer Science)(1999),MCA.(2000) and M.Sc.(Information Technology)(2001).
SEGREGATION
For administrative purposes and students welfare the department was separated into two major sections in the year 2018 named
- Department of Computer Science (Programs: B.Sc.(Computer Science),M.Sc.(Computer Science) and M.Sc.(Information Technology))
- Department of Computer Applications (Programs: B.C.A. and M.C.A.)
OBJECTIVES
The Main objective of the Department of Computer Science is to promote the students community in the field of Computer Science. The Goal of the department is to help the rural students in developing their knowledge and awareness in scientific advancements in the field of computer science.
- To provide quality education to the students through latest technology development in Computer science through learning environment that helps students to enhance problem solving skills, be successful in their professional lives and to prepare students to be lifelong learners by offering a solid theoretical foundation in computing along with applied computing experiences and educating them about their professional and ethical responsibilities.
- To establish Industry Institute Interaction to make students ready for the industrial environment and to provide exposure to students to the latest tools and technologies in the area of computer software. There is a blend of theoretical and practical exposure to the students through seminar and workshops and through guest lecturers
- The Department encourages students to pursue professional courses and conducts career guidance programs to appear for competitive exams. The Department also encourages students to participate in internal and inter-collegiate competitions, cultural events to explore their talents and skills.
SALIENT FEATURES
The department is offering superfine academic ambiance with qualified core faculty members to develop domain knowledge and rational skills of students. This Program includes the study of software Engineering, Operating Systems,Computer Networks,Web Technology,Android Application Development, Java, RDBMS, Data Structures etc.,. Engaging in highly interactive Seminars and guest lecturers with Industry-oriented resource person are conducted which help the students to bridge the gap between education and industrial need. Obtains standard of excellence in knowledge and skill through syllabus provided by the University of Madras which include contemporary modules of advancement such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, IOT , Information Security, etc. Our department assists the project work by which students would get the opportunities to develop their programming skills and gain exposure to the work in the industrial environment. The department is also well supported by the service of the vibrant Placement centre and the alumni of Computer Science are placed in leading companies like Infosys, Wipro, CTS, TCS, Tech Mahindra. Accenture, HCL, etc.
MILESTONES
- The latest achievement of the student of the department being Miss. Sowmiya has cleared the national level CSIR-UGC JRF exam in flying Colours
- Many students have achieved University ranks throughout the history of the department.
- Good amount of students have cleared SET/NET examinations and also have become Doctorates
- More number of our Department students has became an Entrepreneur.
- Many of our students are placed in many corporate and leading MNCs through placement cell.
