DEPARTMENT OF Historical Studies
The Department of Historical Studies was started in 2018 with UG course to facilitate the rural students of Thiruvellur District, TamilNadu, India. The department offers an Undergraduate course since 2018. The department was recognized for its teaching and well balanced curriculum.. The department educates and trains undergraduate students to become good citizens and to do service to our country.
The Department has got several classrooms and a Seminar hall in order to provide training to students. The College has a General Library and departmental library which is to motivate students to learn History of India and the World.
The Department organises students meet, various competitions, Special Lectures, Guest Lectures by Resources persons from regional institutes. We have various student development programslike add-on courses. Field visits are undertaken every year, and the students are encouraged to attend symposia, seminars and conference (South Indian History Congress, Tamil Nadu History Congress and Indian History Congress) with proper guidance from the faculties.
Historical Studies aims at helping students to understand the present existing social, political, religious and economic conditions of the people. The present is in fact development of the past. Without the knowledge of history we cannot have the background of our religion, customs institutions, administration and so on. Our present conditions are thus the result of the past problems.

Program Objectives
PO 1: | To present basic information on the main stages of human historical development. |
PO 2: | To demonstrate knowledge of the chronology, narrative, major events, personalities and turning points of the history of the India and Modern World. |
PO 3: | Provide multi-causal explanations of major historical developments based on a contextualized analysis of Modern World History. |
PO 4: | To develop fundamental skills and ability for independent learning and reasoning. |
PO 5: | To place historical arguments into a larger scholarly narrative. |
PO 6: | To Develop critical thinking, creative thinking, and self-confidence for eventual success in carrier. |

PSO 2: | The course has been designed in such a manner that a student can get a clear idea about Indian physical geography and the antiquity of our civilization. It also denotes the values, and traditions of our ancestry. |
PSO 3: | Students from our department are effectively taught and explained the cause with the help of visual aids like Black board and PowerPoint presentations. They will be able to visualize situations. They will explore and understand the historical development. |
PSO 4: | After completion of this course, they gather knowledge about the socio-cultural heritage of India and the world as well. |
